I've written 10 tracks since the last compo and I've only uploaded 1 track from this year so far, all the others are still last years tracks.

Okay, how about some guidelines on voting/rating for this one?  Just some thoughts...

1. I suggest first of all that we dont 'mark down' so much for style.  Just cause you dont like the style of the track doesn't mean its no good.  Likewise, we don't all have to make commercial floor-fillers to pander to record labels in the same style.  Try to judge others objectively.  I think it's acceptable for you to take your enjoyment of the track into consideration, but it should not be more than 1 or 2 points either way in my opinion.
2. Take all things into consideration.  Off the top of my head:  Originality and ideas, selection of sounds/samples, arrangement/flow of the track, quality of mixdown (seperation of sounds/eq balance/dynamics) and overall enjoyment.  If you make a list of things you want to judge on, you can rate each of these items seperately and then add them together at the end for each track.
3. I recommend listening to all the tracks first, making your commentary, and once that is complete for all the tracks, go back and rate them all, skipping from track to track to get a better idea of which order they should be in.  Don't be afraid to use decimal places (eg 6.5) to get more accurate scoring.  If you score down for a specific reason (eg a badly-placed sample or event, poor equalisation/volume) its useful for the producer if you mention these things.  The main benefit of this comp is to learn from others, afterall.

Yeah..it has been awhile now...whats takin so long guys. I think the list idea is good...have the 5 sections virus said, ( Originality and ideas,  selection of sounds/samples, arrangement/flow , quality of mixdown ,overall enjoyment ) and everyone has to rate in those sections. And a little detail on how or why u came to your vote ,that really does help noobs like me improve.

Hey guys, I've got a track I'm working on atm that I hope to squeeze into this comp.  Been hell busy and can only dream of having enough time to turn out as many tracks as you Virus!  (my work rate's prob substantially lower than yours too tho)

i just got some new kit last friday got my m-audio bx8a studiophiles and m-audio audiophile 2496 soundcard so now i have some descent equiptment, starting a tune on them now rendering my old ones obselete until i can be arsed with remastering them, it wont take long a few days maybe if im not ready start without me im not going to prolong it for everyone (thats mean )

sorry I'm taking so long.  Since the viralessence remix comp I've started about 15 tracks, most of which are about 1-3/4 done.  There's ONE that I think is ALMOST done, and I hope to squeeze it in here, but I dont' want to rush it.  It'll come together as it comes together.  Point being, I still care, and I still want to compete, I'm just taking a while.  May even miss this round, unless it stays this slow.

if quiver gets his in before me then just start the comp.  I don't want to hold anybody up any longer.  I tried to work on my shit tonight and I'm just having one of those days where everything I do just doesn't fucking work, so I'm losing faith that I'll have any of these tracks finished soon.  So yeah, I'll get it in if I get lucky enough to finish it, otherwise close as soon as quiver is done, and I'll just stomp y'all next time.

Don't wanna turn this into a gear discussion but I'm curious: Vex, what you think of the Audiophile card?  I just got a presonus firebox and it kicks ass but was looking into m-audio at the same time - interested to hear your take on it?

it's not coming well at all.  you guys should really do this round without me.  It's starting to look like I may even miss the next round if I can't turn myself around.  EVERYTHING I've been doing has been shit for a solid couple of weeks now.  Maybe I'm thinking about it too much, but when my remix for "embers" got signed, I felt like I set a bar for myself, and now I'm scrambling trying to reach it...

ANYWAY, you'll all get to hear the new shit soon enough.  I won't keep it from you, I just have to finish it first.  Most of it is angry.  real angry.  think counterstrike meets limewax meets spor.  Or something.

As for the audiophile card, I can answer that too, I have an audiophile 192.  It's great.  When you can record/handle audio at those levels (24/192, blah blah blah) it's pretty fucking sweet.  Whatever I put into it, that's what comes out of it, and that's real key.  Now if only I had proper monitors.

I've got the 2496 too.  It does the job, no frills.  I used to have an Audigy 2, and that had loads of fancy shit but poor latency performance.  So I'm happy with the 2496 now.

WOW guys.  WOW.

This particular comp doesn't sound like it's coming from the same people.  It sounds like it's coming from the big dogs.  This is a whole new level here.  You guys have ALL done EXCELLENT work.  I don't know who's tracks are whos, but I can say the quality has LEAPED up a great deal.  I'm more impressed every time we do this thing.  Everyone give yourself a pat on the back, these tracks are all good.  With everyone's permission I may even do a mix of these.  REALLY impressed fellas.  Even if I had entered I don't know what my chances would have been.  These all sound like they could just take a quick trip to post production/mastering, and then they'd all be vinyl worthy tracks.  WELL DONE everyone, well done.

I can place most of the ones I've listened to already.  Jossi always sticks out a mile.  But yeah, the standard has gone up.  No iffy ones so far.  It almost makes it worth the long wait for this comp.  This is only my 2nd track from this year in this comp, so its a bit of a jump for me too.
 
We should start our own label if this progress continues...

Damn!  These tracks are just sick!  I'm gonna need some time to do a fair job of judging these tunes I think - it's a privilege to be competing with entrants of this calibre... I got a lotta work to do!  Unreal...

Yeah, you have to review everyone elses or you dont go through into the final results.  But your track should still have appeared on the list above.  You can always enter it into the next one.

If you have started voting on tracks, you are in the 'voting members' section.  Once you have voted on all of them, you in the 'voted members'
 
When you are voting, there is a % to show how many you have done.

Well I'm all done voting.  That was no walk in the park I assure you!
As far as I was concerned pretty much every track in there was of release standard which made it so hard for me to judge.  So... I feel like I was a bit hard in places cos I had to force myself to pick things apart (trying to be constructive of course) while if in one of the previous comps I wouldn't have picked on some things.  Overall I think that's prob a good thing tho right?  I hope so anyways...

Anyway, I'm about halfway through judging.  Sorry it's taking me so long, but I'm trying to finish some tracks for the next comp especially considering I missed the boat on this one.  I'm bringing my a game though, so it'll be worth it.

I have to say the same thing about the tracks, most of what I've heard has been great, and if some of my comments seem a little harsh, it's because with this kind of quality you really have to be nit picky.  I'm doing my best to be diplomatic, to point out strengths AND weaknesses.

Still judging on my usual scale 5 points possible for mix and 5 for arrangement.  I feel it's a good system.  Maybe a possible guidline?  Is there something major anyone can think of that can't ultimately be linked to those 2 categories?  I figure it'll help future comps a lot if we have not set rules, but general guidelines for judging that everyone can base on..

So again, great job everybody, I'm gonna try and finish voting now, and I'll see you next comp!!

Well I changed my name because, as you can see, I'm clearly a Gorilla 

done voting now, my winner is track 149, but it was a really close comp this time.  Almost everybody was an 8 or an 8.5, I don't think anyone had less than 7.  The whole thing was within a couple of points.
