Battle of the beats 2005 - III: reviews by crank

Miu by Dave Akuma: that's more interesting

that's more interesting track for me with attention to details. not the best beat for the track, i'd layer some high freq snare & kick to give the pattern more definition and maybe choose more hi-fi hats. anyway hard to decide without trying myself Laughing out loud . the theme is definite, the vibe is consentient.

My Hope (demo) by MeMpHiS: the most melodic rich stuff.

the most melodic rich stuff. really rose some nice emotions.
tho too short. drums are overreverbed and lost their definition. anyway, nice.

Autumn by King Louis: like this old school choped

like this old school choped breaks & tighten up. like king louis. cuz as usual for him - low volume level & monoish. no i see reverb here but like some cheap one Laughing out loud. man try any reverb with early reflections to get some space instead of that 'next room' sound. think maximizer + exciter could do this track & beats more powerful. reese sometimes dominate over drums that need some more upfront presence.

SunShine by DMJ a.k.a Jossi: i like oriental stuff

i like oriental stuff Smiling
marimba riff is very good, pipe pattern is a bit naive and need to be more on background.
nice clean acoustic beats.
tho i dont like hat stereo+hits domination.
i'd use more sharp snare.

The false prophet by caldi: the best intro. fucking nice

Submitted by crank on Fri, 2005-10-07 15:31.

the best intro. fucking nice athmos. where have u taken pads from? but the rest is rather monotonous. dry mono beat & bass. at least i'd care about stereo more. first it looks ok with intro but after the drop i feel there should be another theme to be in vibe with intro.

Liquid Flame by Virus & Glitch: nice vibe and atmos but this

Submitted by crank on Fri, 2005-10-07 15:42.

nice vibe and atmos but this fucking beat is a bit muddy. layering hi-freq snare & kick would add more sharpness i guess. a bit of *room* reverb would be good on drums. there's no space separation between drums, bass and that chanting vocal (?). so all they are playing in strict center. a bit boring. structure isnt strong too, several repetions with drops.

ground live by moonbird: interesting sounds, but they

Submitted by crank on Fri, 2005-10-07 15:37.

interesting sounds, but they get boring after a while. amen needs more definition, harsh pads - reverb for smoothing and less volume.

king cobra by 822: what the shit? 8-0 822? he

Submitted by crank on Fri, 2005-10-07 15:51.

what the shit? 8-0
822? he got stranger & stranger Smiling
tho i think the track is perfect for a horror movie Smiling
