Battle of the beats 2005 - IV: reviews by dumi

The League Of Shadows by Bobby Dangerous: another one with a tag.

another one with a tag. anyway. i think this one's a bit short. but this might be my favourite one. god damn it. could've easily made it longer. ok. i'll pay it again and pretend it's 5 minute s long Smiling

winner imo.

something wonderful by crank: really good break. i love

really good break. i love those bongos. heh, i like the quote: 'something's goin to happen...something wonderful' i need that sample too. so if you're kind ebough, whoever you are, pm me about that quote. i really need it. and those fx, the 'hu-ha' vocals give this tune an awsome groove. the beat roll like crazy. maybe a bit to athmosferic to my recent tastes. i'd love a more obvious melodic line in this tune to give this a 10. so 9.5

great work.

wow. bad beat. that crispy, slightly distorted, almsot clipping sound of the drums adds to the already dark-industrial vibe of the tune. good usage of fx.

a lot of these tunes should really be signed. quality is amazing.

can't believe the groove this tune has. it's a stomper. has this illegal-warehouse-party feeling where you go completely berzerk on a tune like this. also, the frequent breakdowns and drops of the beat are nice in a sort of teasing way.

good.

Even my heart cries by Forearm: trhis one is good also. tho

trhis one is good also. tho a bit monotonous after some 4 minutes. serious drumwork. can't really find a flaw.

Natural Violence by Virus + Glitch: as i said last night, this

Submitted by dumi on Tue, 2005-12-06 13:12.

as i said last night, this one's a stormer. it would sweep the dancefloor away on a proper sounsystem. reall good, clean, crispy sound, tho i must complain (ain't i a stinker) about something.

some really low bass is badly needed to make this one an apocalyptic sound. some 80 hz bizness. that really thick, barely audible sub. Smiling anyway, the beats should punch more. could easily be thicker, bigger. i need to feel every kick drum drops me on the top of my head and every snare hits me over the face. Smiling pretty vivid description huh? lol

wreck Smiling step

Red Rum by kompressah: heh, this one has an id3

Submitted by dumi on Tue, 2005-12-06 14:04.

heh, this one has an id3 tag. Laughing out loud breakcore bizness. bad-bad beat. this one's ridiculously good. that syncopated drum break is great.

Metro Lights by Screamheads: great funky sort of vibe.

great funky sort of vibe. uplifting Smiling the vocal samples are well chosen. they fit in good with the rest of the tune.

seven samurai by 822: nice downtempo intro. could

Submitted by dumi on Tue, 2005-12-06 13:18.

nice downtempo intro. could be a little shorter... i like the bassline kinda creeps in from behind you. sneaky. good rhythm. i'd change the melody a bit when the uptempo beat drops.

phiuta by source: not another reece. grew so

Submitted by dumi on Tue, 2005-12-06 14:14.

Sad not another reece. grew so tired of reeces. tho this sounds pretty nice. the tune gets a little old after some 3 minutes and the second drop doesn't come with anything new.

Drax.mp3 by King_Louis: i'm not really feeling the

Submitted by dumi on Tue, 2005-12-06 13:23.

i'm not really feeling the trancy synth. and i'd like nicer intro. it drops too soon imo. the buid-up is missing. i also feel the beat is somewhat muddy. lacks puch.

structure needs some serious work too.

Fallen Warrior by DMJ AkA Jossi: after that nasty-ass

Submitted by dumi on Tue, 2005-12-06 13:27.

after that nasty-ass sounding, reversed, drum-thing, fx at 1:17 the drop is sort of anti-climax. i expected somthing serious, but instead the same beat dropped with the same melody. and you certainly don't want to disapoint the listener with the first drop.

sorry.
