Overdose by Golem: i think i know who made this

i think i know who made this right off the bat. dirty reece action, good shit! nice deep sub thrown into the intro.... nice, nice... hard-stompin drums... damn, i think this one's in serious contention for the win. oh yeah, the breakdown and drop don't disappoint either. 'OVERDOSE'... yes! reminiscent of the captain kirk days. nice vox samples. unique drum arrangement on those edits... i like 'em. it's not gonna be easy for me to find fault on this one, other than the obvious mixdown and image/panning work needed - it's way too quiet overall, some mid-high hiss and a bit muddy in the mids too. love the drum change-up at 4:26, more of that particular break would be nice i guess (nitpick). my only real gripe is in the mixdown, i suppose... fix that up, and you've got a massive tune here!

against all odds by djobscure: ouch, the mids are

ouch, the mids are definitely too hot here right off the bat. but moving the headphones off my ears a bit, this shit sounds TIGHT... really enjoy that break and it's edits/fills. yeah nice breakwork here, definitely. damn other than the hot mids, this sounds like it's from a pro! there's that rinsed-out bass i like too Eye-wink yeah this is dope. some of the layered breaks are too loud in relation to the others tho. i have nothing bad to say about the arrangement of elements here at all, breakdowns where i like em (1:30 and 3:30) for perfect mixability, and everything flows real nice. mixdown is definitely my only real major gripe here. well, maybe the way the second drop comes in too, with that short build. but that's nitpicking Smiling one of the few submissions with high overall volume, too high in places tho (esp in drumfills).

Underground by Dj Shiver: high-energy intro! i like

high-energy intro! i like it, although a little too much hiss present. ooooh nice reeces. the break is decent, but perhaps could use more edits/fills (i always seem to say that tho Eye-wink). definitely need to eq out some high-end hiss. nice arrangement, i can see this one getting ppl to move their asses on the floor. no real first breakdown, again maybe it's just me but i really like to hear a breakdown around 1:30 for mixability's sake. other than that and the high-end needing toned down somewhere, this is a slammin track! it's a bit quiet overall and there's a bit of residual bleeping going on at the end too, gotta get rid of that.

Have some Fun by Royalston: oh yeah nice drums in this

oh yeah nice drums in this intro... that background pad may be a bit hot on the lower-mids. love the percussion here. perhaps just a bit less delay. sub hits veeery nice! oh yeah, i'm diggin this track alot. very nice synthwork. all the elements seem to sit perfect in the mixdown too. great panning. hard to find anything i don't like on this one. maybe a change in the way it transitions into the break at 2:52, it just seems a tad abrupt there. perhaps i wouldv'e changed/deleted the percussion towards the second half of that break... but damn, the way it drops after that is fuckin sick. i really like this track alot.

shores of the unknown by synrgy: oooh this intro sounds like

oooh this intro sounds like my kind of track! that vocoded shit sounds perfect. a little too much leadsynthwork for my taste, perhaps i would've used it a bit more sparingly? that's nitpicking too Eye-wink love that vocal stab at 1:52, and the drumedit just before it... very nice. right up my alley. hard to tell thru my headphones, but the sub seems to be lacking a bit in the low freqs. some bars without the siren-like drone would be nice, to add some variation. other than that, nice arrangement. easily mixable, the way i like it Eye-wink the scratch-like sounds before the second drop seem a bit out of place - too hot on the mids or velocity perhaps? more drumedits like the one at 1:52 would be nice to hear too... the outro strings could use a bit more eqing, some nasty highs coming thru somewhere there. overall very nice work!

demon rising by waves power: nice uberchorus on those

nice uberchorus on those drumhits, nice transition into non-chorused percussion too. the intro string-pads could use a bit more processing imo, but the note pattern is nice. breakdown at 1:00 is a bit busy/random sounding for my taste (i guess it's the piano). i really like the breakdown at 2:38 ALOT, but the tramen lacks some weight. those synths/fx are reeeeal nice. now we're going more my style! hard-ass drums (although they need more punch), love the fills! hard shit, we like hard shit. the synth/fx all sound good, but perhaps are a bit overlayered. some sections with just one of them over the beat would kick ass. the real heavy hypersaw is a little loud. i really enjoy the 2-minute section between 2:38-4:40 where it's harder, makes the other intro/outro saound weaker (esp bassline)... i think it would be better to continue more of those harder elements to the end rather than switching back to the lighter intro-style. too quiet overall. looks like the tag ifo made it thru, if this is 'demon rising' by darbai Eye-wink

rainmaker feat. esther by mabus: creepy pads, nice nice. kind

creepy pads, nice nice. kind of an abrupt transition to the guitar lick there tho. loses the dark-slamming vibe a bit i think. regardless, this track is put together very well, mixdown seems pretty good too. perhaps a bit more processing/editing of the vocals. nice percussion elements thrown in, that panning on them keeps it interesting too. the piano sounds nice, but again the transition out seems a bit abrupt. man i do love that creepy-ass pad tho! i may have to gank it from the intro to use for my own future evil plans Eye-wink

Translation Protection by ptah: i really like the creepy

i really like the creepy granulated pad in the intro. major break choppage going on here, a little busy for my taste but well done. that vox in the breakdown is awesome, although it has too much low-end verb i think. some percussive elements would sound better with a wider stereo image (hats/cyms maybe). and i would love to hear a louder layer of twisting, warping mid-bass. the track seems a little bare overall... maybe more fx layered in. the ones that are there sound real nice tho. those are the type of pads/fx i try to make.

In The Morning by DJ Scape: nice buildup of intro

Submitted by ruffian on Fri, 2006-10-27 14:49.

nice buildup of intro elements goin on... break fits perfect when it comes in, perhaps it's a bit too motched on the eq tho. maybe it's just the snare. rolling along nicely... nice atmospheric breakdown, vox sits well there too. nice use of panning. on the drop.. ooooh i love that rinsed-out bassline! although it sounds a little to wide on the stereo image imo. not my normal fave style overall, but well done nonetheless. nice hats/cyms. perhaps a bit less rev-cymbal (esp in the second breakdown) would be better... i do love the way the melody switches up halfway thru that second breakdown, then continues thru the remainder of the track. at the end of the track, you can hear a slight click that needs edited out of the back of that pad.

Anzor by hksystems: intro sounds good... love

intro sounds good... love the rinsed out drums. nice build going...the arped bass isn't really my style, but seems to work good here. nice percussive elements layered in there too. bass synths need a little more proccessing in my opinion, too 'clean' for my taste. again, love all the percussion going on here! that snare kicks ass. not real nasty, but still hard. no real 1st breakdown to speak of tho - maybe i rate a bit too heavily on mixability, blame the dj in me Eye-wink nice lead synthwork after the 4 minute mark, although perhaps that lead line occupies a bit too much of the mix. would've liked to hear a bit more variation on drums (fills/edits).

Souls R us by DMJ: bit much verb on the the

bit much verb on the the intro kick/snare. guitar (sitar?) sounds nice when it comes in...perhaps even better if it were auto-panned a little. i also like the reece-like bassline that it alternates with, although perhaps the two don't quite fit together just right... it sounds nice going from reese to guitar, but not vice-versa (if that makes sense). maybe just a bit of rearranging here and there to help things flow a bit nicer. i do like that breakdown, they both sound real nice when used in there. could be even better with more meat on the reece. and damn, another short one... i like 'em at least 5:30 long.

by : nice intro vox! break sounds

nice intro vox! break sounds really good too. the sweeping lfo'd synths in the beginning would be best omitted imo. some stuff sounds a little mid-muddy; the female vox at the end of certain bars is definitely too hot on mids/velocity - the one that sounds like it's saying "yeah, hot" (ironically enough). little too much of the background pad too, would be nice to drop that out at some point to give the ears a break from it. and damn, at 4 minutes long, too short - perhaps it's still in progress?

Dirt Bike by Contayjen: drums are a little basic for

ruffian's picture
Submitted by ruffian on Fri, 2006-10-27 14:41.

drums are a little basic for my taste, however they do pickup a bit after the break. i think it would sound better with no drums at all during the break tho, would kick in harder on the drop when they come back in that way. chalk it up to personal taste i guess. mixdown sounds good (thru my headphones at least), hard to tell how much sub there is... maybe could use a bit more in the <60hz range? pretty short track too, wouldn't give a dj much mixout time Eye-wink
