195 Noctuary - Welcome newbie Remember to remove your mp3 tags next time. I can definately hear a Noisia influence in this with the silky atmopsheres and the growling synth, which I love. The ethnic sounds also add a classy touch and musicality that takes it from the dancefloor into serious armchair territory (not a bad thing...I think there is room in dnb for this). The mix is the best so far (out of 5 tracks) but the hats are too loud and crisp, reaching that 'spoon tapping a china bowl'-type of sound, which can be a bit fatiguing over long periods of time. Also they sound a tad robotic...I think you need less velocity on the off-beat/ghosts for mix perfection. The track is also slightly too long for the content with the really tasty-sounding growl riff getting slightly samey during the middle of the track.

194 - From the off a decent dancefloor groove. The vocal stabs are an effective touch. Good work on the sounds and excellent builds in this one, but a bit on the short side. The mixdown and arrangement are both pretty good, not getting too boring or samey or obviously lacking in any way. Good riffage and energy. Hardly anything to pick at, apart from the length. This one would be the winner for me if it wasn't short, but it comes a close joint 2nd place.

172 - Good volume and solid subs from the start...I could hear this going down in a club. There are quite a few tracks in this comp that are very close to if not signable in my opinion and this is one of them. Chilled but energetic liquid vibe going on here. The vocals work well and I'm liking the fact that this is the 4th track in a row I have listened to with vox. I see dnb going in this direction. Nice length on this one too, not too long or too short. The atmosphere is maintained all the way through and the mastering is reasonably tight. Loving those bongos, they go well with this style. Some of the sounds are a bit rinsed for dnb in general, like the bird-type sounds and the beats but they are placed in this track and work well.

199 - in the intro, I love the atmospheres of those reversed strings whatever they are. The orchestral sounds also add an original vibe. The thing I like most about this track though is that chopping and changing crazy bass riffage going on when it finally drops. Its like the most tasteful clownstep track ever. The additional stab sounds, fills and that 'overload' type thing also keep the jump-up feel flowing.

193 - The vocals really give this track a sweet vibe, nice for either chilling and that loved-up 3am feeling. The drums could do with a bit more power however and I have a personal dislike of the amens which don't help matters but that sweet sweet vocal ooh-ahh is so nice, good work there. Arrangment works well for mxing and some tasty reecey bending going on there too.

197 Ruffian - Yet another regular leaving their tags in. A previous winner no less..Shame on you mate :p True to your name though, some heavy and interesting sounds. Loving the dark atmospheres and synths/samples. The hats manage to sound both dull and metallic which I'm not sure about and the drums, though programmed well, could do with a splash more clarity to really spit fire. While the riffage in this is good, I feel some opportunities are missed to take the energy up to a higher level. That said, as a whole the track works.

196 - A vocal rnb flavour to this one which I'm not usually keen on but I think the arrangement works okay, switching towards the end to a more danceworthy vibe which would work well in the clubs. The mix could do with a tad more brightening up. The vocal has a 'warm' touch to it meaning that its slightly saturated and mid-range prominent, but its not detrimental to the overall effect. The mix isn't too bad with nothing obviously lacking, but some slightly tighter mastering wouldnt go amiss.

166 - That first thing that strikes me about this tune is that the hats are too crisp, but the vibe is smooth and I'm a fan of the standup bass. Lovely pads and atmospheres too, nice slow building over time. The jazz-club section in the middle made me check to see if this wasn't another tune but after a few listens it seems like an interesting if slightly novel touch. Then it slides seemlessly back into the faster groove.

198 - Less of a dancefloor track this one, more of a chilling vibe to it. I love those vocal ahhs and the track reminds me of FSOL or Orbital. The jungle drums, even though low-key and not my thing anymore, seem to suit the mood of this track. The chilled vibe and the sample are sweet, though the sample is slightly over used. Yeah, definite Orbital vibe to this.

200 Obscure - Another regular who forgot to remove the tags but I have to say you've come a long way mate. Each track is getting more unified musically and your sense of harmony has really grown. The beats, mainly the snare in this one smack it. I still have to complain about the choice of cheesy garage vocals but thats increasingly a matter of taste and less of obvious discordancy. There is a definate dancefloor groove in the bass riff and the arrangment in general. The pads add a nice touch but probably also take this away from the dancefloor. The fact that there are less vocal samples in this one gives me hope that you are weening yourself off them and relying more on your instrumental skills.

173 Un-S3vR - The standard in this comp is so high that I feel this track, even though it has many merits, does come in below par. My main quibbles are with the low-key drums and that screaching sound which detracts from the vibe. There is a fair amount of dirt on this track, which I would never complain about, but the synths while being refreshing melodic for dnb do seem a bit robotic, repetitive and simple in tone. The reece is nicely dirty but lacking in definition. I guess in general the melodies work well together but need more seperation and unpredictable-ness if that makes any sense. I guess I mean 'human'feel. I dont mean to be harsh and this is still a great track, its just that competition is really fierce this time round. That said I'm quite partial to the rapid metal/industrial-style kick drum.
