242 - Bluntman - Instantly recognisable as Bluntman not only because of the ID tag but also because of the sample and the cool jazzy vibe. This track displays a good understanding of song structure and the beats are tight and rolling. Overall this a strong all-rounder with no obvious weak points. Good luck man, this could be your compo. nice airy pad at the outsetSubmitted by hydrophonic on Tue, 2007-12-04 02:33.
nice airy pad at the outset w/ liquidy, housey vibe, no doubt. well done on vibes, liking the scratches. i don't have a proper rig at my computer, but that sub sounds warm as hell. yeah, those scratches are cool as hell dude, especially when capped off by that stab and followed up with those incidental type noises. can't underestimate the importance they have in establishing a proper vibe. takes a turn for the electro trance stylee around 2:00. i kind of fell this section could be a little stronger, funkier. it is certianly an interesting addition to the track and works, but could be strengthened. yeah, back to the first vibe, which is nice and airy. i've heard that 'nuff drum and bass sample in several tunes at this point, a reggae sample makes sense to me the way you used it, but maybe another, less rinsed sample add more to the track. your break has nice flow throughout, although it would benefit from some more obvious 16th notes from time to time. especially like it paired w/ the ride cymbal and/or tamb, though. outro nice and clean, this is a great tune overall, nice job. and peeps, let's start being more careful about leaving our names off of the tracks!!! it didn't affect my voting at all, but in the interest of fairness... #242 love the pads from theSubmitted by dj scape on Mon, 2007-12-03 14:57.
#242 love the pads from the intro and that vocal snippet is pure soul. nice. good little steppin beats as well, basslines deep. coupla good beat edits. good use of the scratch samples and other vocal bits, keeps it rolling. wicked switchup, maybe too soon switching out of it tho would of liked to hear more of that. i might be being a little picky, but maybe some bongo type percs would be nice in some sections just to roll it even more. very good tune, well done I like this alot so far... aSubmitted by Harikiri on Fri, 2007-12-07 10:15.
I like this alot so far... a very smooth build (tho its seems to kick abit quick, have U cut the intro?) theres a nice groove to this track too, which I dont find too much in DnB. Iv sed this to others but I think U could vary the drum pattern a little, say every 16 bars etc.... I like the variation after the break, tho I think those extra strings are abit out of tune in places. Overall a very sweet tune but its quite slow, so i imagine this'll sound VERY different when bein mixed live as it'll be pitched up, did U bare this in mind? A tight sounding track! A tight sounding track! The beats are nice, flowing, the breaks at the end of each bar are sweet. Nice incidental noise (scratches etc). I really like the strings that come in around 4.20, they are nicely understated and compliment the vibe. The section from 1.54-2.39 i'm not feeling i'm afraid, the sections on either side are much better. Kinda like the start to thisSubmitted by thinking on Tue, 2007-11-20 11:15.
Kinda like the start to this the first vocal sample seems to have a slight clip on it though (have to ask is the full sample I'm mad about the boy by marianne faithfull??, other vocal samples good too) - anyways like the overall feel to this tune very goodlooking sounding in parts but then has very good contrasting sections almost trance/house sounding that works well. The bass seemed a bit overpowering at first though but then seems to sit better later on however I did notice some distortion here and there (could a just been my headphones though) I think a bit of limiting/compression wouldn't go a miss - nice work though I'd be chuffed if I'd made this - you've obviously got a very musical ear or can play an instrument or two??? congrats Nice pad from the off, I'veSubmitted by Dj Obscure on Mon, 2007-12-10 08:12.
Nice pad from the off, I've heard this track before :], love the vocal. Feeling the drums, the sub is nice, but I feel it could be deeper, n maybe a bit lower. I would defo layer up some more pads on the intro, feels a little empty as it is. Feeling the drop mate, works well. Make a heavier sub to sit under the melody so it hits a little harder. Solid little roller, bigup. Cool track, really mellowSubmitted by DARK GENIUS on Mon, 2007-11-19 21:47.
Cool track, really mellow chilled out drum and bass the sort of thing you could play in a chill out room. Drums are tight but too simple for me, never the less i liked this track a lot. especially the pads. |
