dark intro, loving that dark

Submitted by Golem on Tue, 2006-09-19 19:39.

dark intro, loving that dark percussion, the synth/strings are really dark it provides a really evil element to the tune, the vocal is wicked, the break doesnt hit hard enough for me in the drop although it is nice i hear a slight amen in the midst Sticking out tongue loving the reese very very dark those drum rolls are nice!!!!!

mastering quality is really nice!
love the tune overall but the vocals around 3minutes are out of sync just a little, but it is a nice touch!

a solid 8 from me

141 - Great intro in this

141 - Great intro in this one too...mad sample, great choice.  The reece sounds a bit static for my liking, though it does play a cool melody.  The beats are hard but sound crowded, like there is too much snare, or the snare is to regular, and it doesn't quite roll enough or something

The breakdown with the crazy sample and opera singing is quite different.  Some  excellent ideas in this one, though the sounds themselves could be fine-tuned a bit more.

The arrangment is good with regular fills and changeups.  The end fade is a bit unexpected, like the track isnt quite finished.  Overall, its well planned out, just some fine-tuning on the drums and reece sounds needed I reckon.

Intro reminds me of the 10

Intro reminds me of the 10 O'clock news with Trevor Macdonald.
Vox in break maybe a bit quiet to cut through in a mix

Nice drop good tune once it has kicked in. Not sure about the Russian choir singing works well in the break but not in the tune

WTF happened at the end it dropped in and just fades out need more Drum n bass u can't do that i was enjoying the beats

Peace Mike

Nice dark vibe...Like the intro, the samples are hot...when the beat comes in it hits hard, like the bass in this one too...like the samples at the end when they are singing, that was tight, no complaints on production. Tight Work

lots of good intros this comp, this one too.

I understand you're going for a 'dark' chord progression, but some of your chords really don't sound right.  The harmonized leads playing the notes in the weird harmony they're in dont' really go with the notes of your bassline.  They're placed in the right places, but I would reccomend fine tuning them more, or this won't be very enjoyable to listen to.  You can be WAY dark and still play notes that sound right together.

That's the big problem with this track.  There's no key, it's just kinda random notes tossed at each other in hopes that they'll fall properly.  Good samples, and you know how to arrange, and the eq is good too, but your key is just ICK.

the 2nd half with the reecey bassline isn't so bad..  but, is that the end of the track??  What happened there?  I don't know if maybe you're one of the new guys, but just in case, we generally post FULL tracks.  We're not here to judge clips. Smiling

So back to the bottom line:  I can tell you know what you're doing, and there is obvious skill in this track, but it needs to work musically and it doesn't.

Arrangement: 2.5 (key falls under arrangement)
mix: 4.5

Final note: if someone with more 'official' musical knowledge than me can show me that these chords are more common than I'll have to take this back, but generally my ears don't steer me wrong.

Not so sure about this one

Not so sure about this one sorry mate.  Some good emotive samples and the tune's good but the samples are often dischordant with your tune, in places creating complete chaos (which may have been what you were going for but it didn't work out so well imo.)
I dug your breaks, they were mint - sounding a bit murky but they fit well with the style.  Your bassline was pretty sweet too but if you take out the samples I don't know that there would've been much left to the track.  Would've liked to hear some more mid to high end elements to make the tune a bit tastier.  The bells were great but not quite enough.
I don't like to be so hard on a tune but this one didn't do it for me sorry.  Basslines and breaks bucked but the track needed more for me.

love the bass on this one!

love the bass on this one! right up my alley. good use of the 'prophecy' vox too. could use some harder/punchier drums IMO though. with some more variation on drums too. the gregorian-choir vox is a bit overused, would sound better used a little less. decent mixdown.
i assume this is just a clip of the whole song, so i won't deduct for the way it ends Smiling
